John Walz:

Yes

The Founding Fathers never intended for all religions to be treated as equal under the Constitution. Their writings and historical context show that Christianity was the moral foundation of the nation, and the First Amendment was meant to prevent the establishment of a specific denomination, not to elevate all belief systems equally. “Freedom of religion” was understood as freedom among denominations, not a mandate to accept systems that conflict with constitutional principles. For example, legal frameworks like Sharia law—which merge religious authority with civil governance—are fundamentally incompatible with the Constitution and were never intended to be protected in that sense. Even sources like Webster’s 1828 Dictionary reflect a distinctly Christian understanding of religion consistent with the Founders’ worldview.
